Mesothelioma claims after 9/11

Date of World Trade Center, 11 September 2001, most New Yorkers and others around the world has not thought about what would be left in the country and in the air, when the fires stopped and the smoke lifted. As caring people, most of us were more concerned about the lives lost and families torn apart by this senseless act of terror.

However, the Rescue Mission was closed and recovery efforts began, people stopped to think about was just the two massive towers. Although it was common to find the millions of pieces of paper, glass, steel and other concrete items is located in Lower Manhattan about what people do not "see" with their eyes was, in fact more dangerous than any hunk of steel or the screen would never have been broken.

When the World Trade Center burned and fell, a huge number of different toxins that were in the air. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says the dust-blanketed Manhattan consisted primarily of "ground up construction materials, such as concrete, glass, fiberglass and some asbestos." Others say, however, that the dust also fiberglass, pulverized concrete, lead, mercury, cadmium, dioxins and PCBs.

Inhalation of these particles is likely to cause health problems all around, whether the rescue worker or a resident who lived in the ever-threatening cloud of dust and weeks, it made fires to burn themselves. Some of the risk would be in the short term, while others may take effect well into the future.
What about asbestos?

In the weeks following the World Trade Center attacks, there has been much debate on asbestos. When the construction of the towers began in the late 1960s, asbestos warnings and bans are not yet in use. Engineers proposed the use of asbestos material, first layer 40 and the towers, but the future is expected to ban high-floor material is not to employ the use of asbestos insulation. Until about 400 tonnes of asbestos fiber was the buildings when they collapsed.

Some were quick to say that there is no asbestos, which caused buildings to burn and collapse so quickly. Steve Milloy, Fox News writer, went so far as to assume that the "junk science-fueled asbestos hysteria" was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of individuals. Some Milloy agreed. Others adamantly disagree.

Most concerns about asbestos, however, was the fear of what it would do to those who inhaled a lot of fibers in the aftermath of collapse, in particular the first of the respondents who are not wearing appropriate protective equipment such as respirators. (Later in the day, the Rescue and Recovery workers asked for protective gear.)

Environmental Protection Agency maintains that the level of asbestos found in the World Trade Center dust was low. Other federal, state and city agencies as well as many independent doctors and health experts agree that the risk of the disease to asbestos exposure near the World Trade Center site is very low. It is, however, already have cases of death due to diseases caused by asbestos.

Those who have you studied a potential hazard caused by asbestos collapse of the World Trade Center, estimated that more than 110,000 people have suffered a serious exposure, including 80,000 workers in the tower, 30000, local residents, and 4000 first response.

In fact many of the first of the respondents suffered from health problems almost immediately, to develop what officials and doctors said "World Trade Center cough." One study showed that over 85% of those who initially responded to the tragedy suffered some sort of respiratory illness within a month (or even weeks) in the collapse.

Deborah Reeve was the first 9 / 11 emergency Reply to die of mesothelioma. He worked as a paramedic for the Fire Department of New York. Reeve began having symptoms of severe lung disease in early 2003 and had been diagnosed with asbestos-caused cancer in 2004. He fell to the disease in March 2006. Doctors believe that his exposure to asbestos was in his days spent working in the exploitation of the site.

Deborah case was also unique that the mesothelioma usually develops decades. In this case, the disease to the surface for only 3 years, convincing doctors that the amount of asbestos inhaled Deborah has been enormous.

As things such as Deborah, the doctors continue to be encouraged to produce toxic dust exposure to 9 / 11 must undergo periodic chest X-ray and lung capacity tests, especially if they experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or persistent cough.

Mesothelioma victim wins bet that he would survive

In Buckinghamshire, a man diagnosed with terminal cancer is to collect a second win for the payment of £ 5,000 betting that he could stay alive.

Jon Matthews, 59, from Milton Keynes, was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, cancer associated with asbestos, in 2006 and he said, had months to live.

It placed two bets, each with a £ 100 bet at odds 50 / 1 that he was alive in June 2008 and June 2009, and the third bet will earn him another £ 10,000 if he lives up to 1 June 2010.

The widower will collect his second lot of £5,000 pound prize on Monday.

Never in 30 years in the company I was so happy to pay the winning client
Graham Sharpe from William Hill

Mr Matthews said: "I think I am the first person in the world, bet on my own life.

"When I was diagnosed with mesothelioma, I said the death sentence.

"I was upset, not because everyone has some time to die.

"But it is interesting that for me was how long it took - it would take weeks or years?"

Mr. Matthews stated that the plans give away most of his winnings to charity, including the Macmillan cancer charity.

William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "We had never been asked to take a bet of this nature before.

"But as Jon approached us directly and was adamant that it would give him an additional incentive to battle his illness, we wanted to bet him.

"Never in 30 years in the company I was so happy to pay a winning client £ 10,000 is, I believe further £ 10,000 next year to come."
